WIPO Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights

In his statement at the 9th December SCCR/29 meeting, the BCC's representative Andrew Yeates, welcomed progress on the proposals for a Treaty on the protection of broadcasting organisations but he also emphasised that any protection of the broadcasting signal should leave intact and not in any way affect the protection of copyright and related rights in the subject matter carried by that signal.  The protection of broadcasting signals should depend on respect for copyright in that subject matter, including ensuring that broadcasters have all relevant licences to broadcast the underlying content in their signals.
