The British Copyright Council (BCC) was established in 1965 and is a national consultative and advisory body representing organisations of copyright owners and performers and others interested in copyright in the UK.

It lobbies the British Government, the European Commission and Parliament and international bodies such as the World Intellectual Property Organisation on matters of copyright and related issues.

Council members Authors’ Licensing and Collecting Society and Phonographic Performance Limited have been invited to give evidence to the House of Commons Select Committee on Innovation, Universities & Skills into the work and operation of the Copyright Tribunal. Recommendations arising from the Review of the Tribunal carried out by the UK Intellectual Property Officer were published in Summer 2007 and the Council’s response to the Select Committee supported many of these recommendations and called for urgent implementation.
